Was and Were
If we get था/थी/थे/थीं etc. at the last part of Hindi sentence in the form of main verb, in such a circumstance "was and were" are used according to the subject.
यदि हिंदी वाक्य के अंत में था/थी/थीं/थे/ इत्यादी मुख्य क्रिया के रूप में हम पातें हैं तो ऐसी परिस्थिति में was and were का प्रयोग किया जाता है।
* I, he, she, it, and any singular name take "was".
* We, you, they and any plural name take "were".
Affirmative sentence-
Structure-
Subject+was/were+other words.
Example-
वह गरीब थी। She was poor.
मैं आमिर था। I was rich.
हमलोग डॉक्टर थें। We were doctors.
तुमलोग अभियंता थे। You were engineers.
वेलोग लाचार थें। They were helpless.
आप समझदार थे। You were sensible.
आपलोग चोर थें। You were thieves.
मैं और वह विद्यार्थी थें। He and I were students.
मिना तेज थी। Mina was intelligent.
Note-
"I" is always used as capital letter anywhere.
Negative sentence-
Structure-
Subject+was/were+not+other words.
Example-
तुम गरीब नहीं था। You were not poor.
मोहन दोषी नहीं था। Mohan was not guilty.
लड़कियां नर्स नहीं थीं। The girls were not nurse.
वेलोग बेईमान नहीं थें। They were not dishonest.
हमलोग शिक्षक नहीं थे। We were not teachers.
हम नेता नहीं थे। We were not leaders.
वह राजा नहीं था। He was not a king.
Interrogative sentence-
Structure-
Was/were+subject+(not)+other words+?
Example-
क्या मैं दुखी था ? Was I sad ?
क्या वे गलत थे ? Were they wrong ?
क्या मोहन और शोहन किसान थें ? Were Mohan and Sohan farmers ?
क्या हमलोग बेवकूफ नहीं थे ? Were we not fool ?
क्या आम स्वादिस्ट था ? Was the mango tasty ?
क्या वह तैयार नहीं था ? Was he not ready ?
क्या तुमलोग खिलाडी थें ? Were you players.
